This story makes me VERY annoyed. Thanks to fellow bloggers Paul and Minge for bringing it to my attention. Thought I should share it with the rest of you too, for better or worse!
Why are people like this allowed to voice their stupid, narrow-minded opinions? And as Paul has rightly pointed out, why are they also allowed to carry on broadcasting? Big Brother's Jade Goody and Emily Parr get hauled over the coals for their racist remarks, yet Mr Bushell and Mr Mendoza get a not-very-public telling-off for their homophobic comments, after which they're permitted to go back to their jobs! Er - massive double standards, anyone?
How is this going to help to change people's attitudes? Not in the slightest.
Unfortunately there will always be plonkers like that in the public eye, it's how their comments are handled that makes the difference in public attitude. Taking the "Oh my God, he said what? Let's keep it quiet and hope it's forgotten about" attitude won't change anything ... making them damned well go back on telly and apologise to the nation probably will, I reckon.

Bushell is a waste of space. Surely nobody takes his fake working class, John Bull sermonizing seriously? I'm amazed the man is still employed. He's the village idiot of journalism!

I think you're right, they should be castigated in public and made to apologise but sadly I don't think it's gonna happen. And yet when it's a couple of mundane nobodies from BB they get a public flogging! Why??!

I don't actually know much about Mike Mendoza but all of that sounds weeeeeird. Perhaps there's more to this man than meets the eye.
Steve - Agreed again. Mr Bushw*nk has certainly been around for long enough. Unfortunately I think there ARE some gullible people out there who succumb to his particular school of bigotry - and by allowing stupid f*ckwits like him to continue to sprout homophobic propaganda, he's just perpetuating prejudices further (okay this is all obvious I know...)
