Diary of an old cheeser

Hi there! Like other blogs, this is my chance to wax lyrical (some might say talk utter cr*p) about a) what's happening in my life b) all of my pet obsessions in particular music, tv, movies, books and other generally connected things, quite often of the retro, old and "cheesy" variety. Hence the title of my blog. Feel free to leave a comment if the mood takes you. There's nothing like a good chinwag about one's favourite topics and besides I love to meet new people! Cheers, Simon

And at least...

... I am not living in Kensal Rise. If you weren't already aware (though it's been kind of hard to miss in the news) this North West London district was hit by a freak tornado today. Whilst no-one was actually killed, the tornado smashed cars, ripped people's houses apart and left some unfortunate people homeless. Completely and utterly bizarre. And really very frightening when you consider what is happening to the weather conditions on our planet. In the last few years we've had an increasing number of hurricanes, tsunamis and other natural disasters. Having a generally cold climate, one would think that the UK would be exempt. But then there's global warming, a worrying proposition. Many people are of the opinion this is what's causing all these disasters and I'm inclined to agree. What else could have caused today's occurence? And if something like this can happen in North London then theoretically it could happen anywhere else in the country. Not a nice thought.

So let's try and enjoy ourselves whilst we can. There's more to appreciate than some of us probably realise. Me included.

My pal, Robin, lives one street away from all that pandamonium (sp?) - he told me he was glad he was at work.

Minge - glad to hear your friend wasn't around at the time! I actually used to live in Kilburn, which is very close to Kensal Rise. Must have been very freaky for people living there.

Matt - indeed it was, but of course nowhere near as bad as the hurricanes and other disasters you poor guys have had in the US. The New Orleans flood was terrible. A friend of mine comes from there, she actually now lives in Wales but her Mum is still in New Orleans and her house was totally gutted. Bad stuff.

In fact, reading the Metro this morning, mini-hurricanes are apparently happening all the time, all over the country. There's been about 20 in the last year or so, so it's not such an uncommon occurence. Of course, because people assume London is the centre of the universe, this is the one that gets publicised the most ... As I said the whole global warming thing scares me and nowhere seems safe now. It sounds selfish but I'm glad I won't be around in about 100 years time - I bet weather conditions have got even worse by then!

We're not far from Kensal Rise either, maybe one or two miles max and our kitchen roof is, uh, a bit fragile too, so I was relieved to see everything is o-kay so far yesterday evening. But i heard on the news more windy weather will come throughout Dec...

Glad your place is still intact, Thomas!! Yes I know you don't live so far from there...

And the prospect of more windy weather is a bit scarey...
