Diary of an old cheeser

Hi there! Like other blogs, this is my chance to wax lyrical (some might say talk utter cr*p) about a) what's happening in my life b) all of my pet obsessions in particular music, tv, movies, books and other generally connected things, quite often of the retro, old and "cheesy" variety. Hence the title of my blog. Feel free to leave a comment if the mood takes you. There's nothing like a good chinwag about one's favourite topics and besides I love to meet new people! Cheers, Simon

Challenge from an Old Cheeser

Courtesy of the lovely Minge, I have an interesting challenge for you all (should you choose to take it up, of course).

All you need to do is comment on this post and:

1. I'll respond with a random thought I have about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavour of jelly in which we can wrestle.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or so we think).
5. I'll tell you my first memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what intoxicant you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your blog.

Give it a go! It's loadsa fun!

Ya cheeky beggar Minge!! You'll be getting the whip out next!! Whose blog do you think this, eh???!

    He he he.

Okay then, here goes, I shall start with Steve...lucky him!

Now I guess I should have mentioned this in my post, but it might be quite hard to do this with people I don't know that well...at least in the "online" sense. Steve, as I've only just "met" you, I will have to make a few intelligent guesses...

    So, Steve...

    1. You're quite a dry-humoured kind of guy. And a wordsmith. Whoops, that's two random thoughts.

    2. "Paperback writer" by The Beatles. Sorry, can't think of anything better and I'm sure there's something...it will probably come to me at 3am.

    3. Orange. But as you're straight and I'm gay, I don't think the wrestling thing is going to happen, somehow...how about an arm wrestle instead? Much less sexually charged.

    4. We'll sing a song! The bucket of water song!

    5. It all started with Leo Sayer... Does he know he's responsible for bringing us together?

    6. A pint of lager or a shot of whiskey.

    7. What kind of things do you write? I'm intrigued.

    8. Now post to your own blog...and I note you already have...well done!

Now tell me how accurate / inaccurate I was please!

Coming up...my take on Minge (perhaps I should rephrase that...I haven't had much of a take on minge during my lifetime...)

And now Minge, now for you!! Ha ha ha!! Yes, I am the Master and you will obey me!! Ah ha ha ha!! Or I will shrink you to miniscule proportions with my tissue compression eliminator!! Ah ha - Okay. Ahem. That's QUITE enough from the Anthony Ainley school of hamminess.

    Drum roll, please...

    1. You are a bit of strange but interesting one. Who is well travelled. Has quite a dirty mind, given half a chance. And a liking for Dr Who. The latter two aspects are probably what drew me to you. And that's WAY too many random thoughts.

    2. Anything by The Krankies.

    3. Blackcurrent - like you it's dark, a bit murky and mysterious. And has an acidic, biting flavour...

    4. When you were young and on your own, how did it feel to be alone?

    OR

Would you like some sweets, Willie?

    5. If memory serves me correctly it all started when I commented on some of your Dr Who posts...a good place to start. From thereon a beautiful friendship sprung...

    6. Peach schnapps (I could be way off there).

    7. How long have you and Phyllis been together and how did you meet? (My turn now!)

    8. Done and dusted!

    Ta dah!!

    1. Spot on. Shame you had to stop.

    2. Fandabbydozie!

    3. Jellified ribena! Sounds fabulous!

    4. Only love can break your heart and Wilson.

    5. Beautiful, indeed!

    6. I can be peachy!

    7. We met in October 1999 through ICQ. I had no idea what it actually was and was messing around with it. Ian's name popped up. Not knowing what would happen, I clicked on it! We soon met. I moved in with him in February 2000. The rest is history.

Uncannily accurate my friend - I'm most impressed!

    1) Yep I like to think of myself as a writer and funny (but I could be self delusional).

    2) "Paperback Writer" is one of my favourite Beatles songs - along with Eleanor Rigby - so weird that you picked that one out!

    3) Arm wrestling in orange jelly? Yeah I could go for that, beats twister any day of the week.

    4) Is that the "There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza" song?

    5) Wow. You are right. Leo has at last done something to vindicate his entire mundane career!

    6) Poetry, blogs, political rants, reviews (the latter can be found on my web site Pocketropolis. Sorry for the plug but easier to show you!

    7) Glad to oblige, old boy! Great fun!

Minge!! Glad that most of my responses were close to the mark!

And lovely to hear that you and Ian (why did I call him Phyllis?) have been together so long. Awww. Blimey it must have been lurve for you to move in together so fast ... What's ICQ?

Steve!! Again I am very pleased my guesses were accurate ones ... considering the short amount of time we have known each other as bloggers! I must have had my Mystic Meg wig on.

    2. Can't believe that the Beatles song is a fave of yours - uncanny! I was trying to think of a suitable song with a "writing" theme and that was all I could come up with.

    3. Glad you like the sound of the orange jelly but don't forget to wash afterwards.

    4. Erm no ... it comes from a programme you wrote about on your blog which you said you liked ... think about it ...

    5. Indeed. I can now say to other people, Leo Sayer made me a new friend! Not something you say very often.

    6. I will have to check out Pocketropolis. Sounds good and groovy name. By an odd coincidence, one of my favourite ever Dr Who stories is called "Logopolis".

    7. Actually I think your response to 6. got mixed up with 7. Was I right when I said which drink you reminded me of?

Cheers for participating guys ... you are good sports!!

Are you getting Logopolis on DVD next week?

Phyllis is my pet name for Ian.

ICQ (I seek you) is a chat program, a bit like MSN, but you can search for people with different criteria.

Minge - yes I have pre-ordered it!! Logopolis that is!! I cannae wait!! In a nice box-set with The Keeper of Traken and Castrated Vulva, I mean Castrovalva (Oh dear your dirtiness is catching...) Et vous? Are you purchasing?

I see...it all started in a chat program...
